2012-2013 Teacher Award

The following teacher awards are to honor outstanding teachers for their contribution of science knowledge to the many students passing through their classrooms. 

A white ribbon means that a student has won a special award from a professional scientific organization and will be invited to the Awards Ceremony to receive their special award.

Each year, science and technical organizations with an avid interest in science education present special awards for projects entered in the Greater Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair. Each organization selects its own award criteria, and provides judges to select the winning projects. Science Pioneers would like to thank these organizations for their support and participation in the Fair.

2013 Greater Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair Academic Award Winners

Over 250 scientists, engineers, physicians, educators, and other Kansas City professionals volunteer their time and expertise to judge the science projects at the Greater Kansas City Science Fair. The most outstanding projects in each age group and subject area receive Academic Awards.

The 2013 Pioneers in Science awards go to the top five senior high projects. These awards recognize outstanding examples of student research, innovation and design.

Title of Project: Finding the role of Aggregation, Hyperphosphorylation, and Mutation of Tau Protein in causing Alzheimer's disease using C. Elegans Worms

Annually the top three senior-level projects that meet the stringent requirements for entering the International Science and Engineering Fair win the Grand Award. Grand Award winners received an all-expense paid trip to the 2013 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, AZ May 12th-17th.

The button will lead to links to science topics that are ripe for investigation. These teasers provide guidance for students without giving them a “cookie cutter” project.
