Windows Into Wonderland

US Geological Survey

The US Geological Survey has an education tab on its navigator bar. Within that section are primary and secondary sections links to grade specific teacher guide books on many, many science topics. There is any easy icon code about what is contained in each listed link. Many contain full teacher guidebooks with lessons and activities geared to national standards.

US Department of Energy

The Department of Energy site has easy-to-locate sections for educators and for students & kids. The teachers' section contains catalogs for ordering lesson plans by age level, freebies and grants, plus student activities. There are also sections on the science fair and fair projects. The kids' section has activities and links to other sites.

US Army Corps of Engineers

The corporate website for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has a crayon icon in the top bar which leads to links to science subjects with related Corps projects, lesson plans and student activities. There is an Engineers’ Club for kids, games links to other government sites with kids’ activities.

SouthEast Atlantic Coastal Ocean Observing System (SEA-COOS) Virtual Waves Classroom

The South East U.S. Atlantic Coastal Ocean Observing System has posters, charts, and maps available for download or ordering. The community and classroom tab contains sample lessons on topics like hurricanes. There are computer learning games for students.

It provides numerous links to lesson plans and internet sites with various science-related topics and activities for students to use. Pathfinder also offers a Teachers’ support area for the involvement of research projects.
