2011 Greater Kansas City Science & Engineering Fair Changes

 

 

Generic SF

 

1. The Science Fair is at Union Station from March 23-26, 2011.

2. Project pickup is Friday evening from 4:00pm to 7:00pm--- absolutley NO projects will be kept after this time!

3. The Awards Ceremony will be held from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Hyatt Hotel Crown Center Exhibit Hall B. (Enter from the Hyatt parking garage.)

4. We have new categories in the 2011 science fair. Cellular Biology has been changed to Molecular Biology. Physical Science has been changed to Matter & Energy and Force & Motion. Environmental/Energy has been changed to Environmental Science & Renewable Energy.

5. A new scoring guide for engineering projects at the senior level has been developed. Please see scoring guides in the publications area of the website. And a new section for Engineering Projects has been added to the Senior level Science Fair Handbook for Experimental and Engineering Projects.

6. Science Fair applications are now two pages plus an abstract on a separte page and do not need to be run front and back

7. Schools of any size or grade may have a maximum of 20 total projects submitted in the fair. Science Pioneers will not accept additional applications as alternatives

8. Human Subject Form 2 for grades 4-8 and Human Subject Form (4) for grades 9-12, do not need prior approval by the Science Pioneers Scientific Review Committee (SRC), but mut have appropriate signatures at the school level before experimentation begins. The form has changed in appearance, but has the same content.

9. If a school or home school cannot get a nurse or health professionals' signature for the Human Subject Form, Science Pioneers can serve in that capacity. Fax to 816-501-4802 with a note explaining your need. 

10. Interested students from schools that do not have science fair support can enter as a single individual or team. To be allowed to do so, students must fill in appropriate information on application and get prior signed approval from Science Pioneers. Call Science Pioneers at 816-460-2261 to get details. This is not necessary for home schools.

11. Observational studies of vertebrates in grades 4-8 are valid projects. Please call Science Pioneers at 816-460-2262 with questions.

12. All Intermediate and Junior projects that involve hazardous materials must include Hazardous Materials Form (3).

13. Human or Animal Tissue Form (1) for Intermediate and Junior projects now includes animal tissue and requires prior approval before beginning experimentation.

14. Bacterial Form (4) for Intermediate and Junior projects now required for all projects involving bacterial, regardless of their source.
