Meet the Science Mentor Day

Meet the Science Mentor Day allows students in grades 4-12 the opportunity to meet area scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians to discuss science fair projects. Students learn about the connection between science and everyday life. They visit with science mentors one-on-one, attend workshops on the "how to's" of projects, and visit displays to chat with scientists, engineers, and technologists about their workplace investigations/research. These seminars are for students in grades 8-12, their parents and teachers, and the public. Career scientist, engineers and technologists present these seminars on hot topics in science. Students learn about real KC science firsthand from those involved and hear what scientists do on the job. Presenters hold a Q&A session after each seminar. These seminars are free. Expanding Your Horizons (EYH)

Young women in grades 6-8 enjoy an evening of hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Professional women from science and math-related fields facilitate workshops and serve as role models while explaining their work challenges and achievements. Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) Expansion Program

Three Saturdays TBD following EYH

The EYH Expansion Program gives young women an extended opportunity to explore the science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers in hands-on workshops. The participants work in small groups in one of four career fields to explore a specific career in greater depth with a female mentor. The young women do experiments that mimic the actual work of the mentor and create take-home items produced in the workshops. All the young women will receive an application on January 20th at the EYH conference.

The 60th Greater Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair

Students in grades 4-12 who love to do science can enter the Greater Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair. Students design a project to explore a question of their own choosing and learn problem solving skills to become better critical thinkers.
